Hilman provided (8) standard 100-XT rollers to perform a lateral bridge move. A set of (4) rollers were bolted to a load bearing beam on each end of the structure. It is critical to insure parallel alignment of the roller to the channel for effective movement of the bridge at New York Route 8.
After jacking up the bridge, channel sections were installed perpendicular to the bridge and the load beams were lowered into position by crane. Clean, flat and parallel channel sections will help maintain a 5% or lower coefficient of friction. Once the lift jacks were disengaged, the bridge rested upon the load beam and roller arrangement. Hydraulic screw pull rods were then utilized to pull the bridge into place.
